I'm Getting Older Too

Song of the week: Landslide, Fleetwood Mac

I was never a big fan of Fleetwood Mac when Fleetwood Mac was all one heard on the radio. Keep in mind-- I was exploring the world of punk music, so Fleetwood Mac did not exactly fit into my limited repertoire of audio delights back in the late 1970's. Radio was different back then. A song would stay in the Top 40 for weeks... same with albums. Rumours... oh my gosh... was on the charts for months and months... imagine hearing a Britney Spears song for months and months... it's bad enough if it is played for a few weeks... Landslide wasn't on Rumours-- it was actually on their white album or self titled album, Fleetwood Mac.

I've never been a huge Stevie Nicks fan--- or at least her vocals. It has only been within this past decade that I have grown to enjoy the music of Fleetwood Mac-- the 70's version of Fleetwood Mac...(still exploring the older blues influenced Peter Green days) and what I have grown to like and understand are Stevie's abilities as an incredible songwriter. The words to Landslide are quite powerful... as a twenty something she was looking out over the years to come... choices she was making in the moment-- the apprehension of making the right choices-- the insecurities of the unknown. Now, as you hear the words sung in recent years, some 30 years later... with age comes wisdom at least I hope that is the case. The song takes on a more melancholy meaning... reflection and recollection of choices made, maybe some regret-- those bittersweet moments in life that cause that lump in the back of your throat...

After three and half years, I am moving. This will be my last Sunday post here at this location. Starting next year I will be posting here. Please make a note of it and bookmark the new address. It's time. So, 2009 marks the beginning of "change", so I thought I would just go with it. The photo is mine-- it is a covered bridge up in Holmes County, Ohio-- I took the shot this past fall. I still don't have everything moved over that I want-- mainly my blogroll... what a pain in the toosh that is... really what happened to Blogroll? Dude just disappeared??

I hope you had a nice Christmas--- I can't believe it is over already... and we are just days away from another year... time is flying by... My oldest niece will not be with us on New Year's Eve... how strange that will be... It is a new chapter in her life and she is off spreading her wings... her mom and pop and Michael and I are saddened... We told her not to grow up, but she ignored us. I feel I should be with Peter Pan in Neverland and I'm going to take the rest of my nieces and nephews there to reside... Tuesday we are having my brother's oldest daughter over for a sleepover-- I'm going to do my best to convince her to not get any older--- Michael and I are really going to work hard to convince her boys have cooties and to always be ten years old... I'm just not ready for another one of my loves to grow up...

I took my love and I took it down
I climbed a mountain and I turned around

And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
'Til the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Mmm Mmm...

Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I'm getting older too

Yes, I'm getting older too

Well, I've been afraid of changing
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
I'm getting older too

Yes, I'm getting older too

So, take this love, take it down
If you climb a mountain and you turn around

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
The landslide will bring you me down

If you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
Well maybe the landslide will bring it down

This One's For The Girls

Scattered Thunderstorms - Hi 77 Lo 59 for Baghdad, Iraq
Rain/SNOW!! - Hi 50 Lo 36 for Northern KY, USA

Song of the week: an encore of This One's for the Girls,
Martina McBride

I turned 42 on Easter Sunday. I'd like to say I'm not upset about getting another year older, so I will... I'm not upset. I don't feel like I'm 42... I don't look like I'm 42... It's a freaking number... so... I spent time with my 13 year old niece and she is aching to grow up... The 42 year old aunt can not tell the 13 year old niece enough to enjoy every second of her teenage life... savor it... learn- learn from her successes and failures, listen to mom and dad, laugh, love, cry, choose your role models carefully, strive for excellence in everything you do. It's all part of it-- yeah... including the endless crushes- at least she has moved on past Johnny Depp. Does the 13 year old niece listen?... Thankfully, the 13 year old niece is smart that way... unlike the 42 year old aunt that is typing this....She never listened to anyone....

Ramble:

NOTE: Because my computer crashed while I was working on this post [and I neglected to hit the save button because I was on a serious roll] here is the Reader's Digest version-- I doubt any of it will make sense... but it is 4:30am and the insomnia has worn off and now I want to go get some sleep.

In general, women annoy me- main reason- high maintenance. Women complain about their spouses... worse, some call their spouses names... this is a direct reflection on the name caller...not callee... you picked him sweetheart... that must make you an idiot... Despite my annoyance, it is important to have girlfriends... Men are the hunters and women are the gatherers... we like to nest... we like details.. [high maintenance]. My husband is the most important person in my life, but if I discuss a problem with him... he wants to fix it [that's what men do].... sometimes women just need to talk through something... nothing needs fixing...

I have discovered over the past couple of years some pretty amazing women that are quite gifted at writing. Here are my favorites and I hope you visit all of them.

The Lasso of Truth - Wonder Woman started blogging around the same time I did. She is incredibly bright. Her posts are articulate and pithy. She is Canadian; she is an atheist; she is a conservative... She makes for an interesting thought provoking read and will debate anyone with a differing opinion.

The Trouble with Angels - I visit Diane and Mel when I just want to kick back. Going to their blog is like going to the home of a friend where you are comfortable enough to go to her kitchen and fix your own soda without asking for permission. Diane maintains a game called Dead Guy on the Sidebar... which I don't play... I stink at it. Diane is also the person that can read a manual and voila... she can do it... Pick one... Learn to Crochet in 3 easy Steps or Rebuild Your Car Engine Without Mussing Your Makeup---Diane is your girl.

SeeJaneMom - Wow.... Jane. Jane is like a mama bear protecting her cubs. She is smart, sarcastic, and she writes angry- she IS fighting for her children and her husband, the Marine. Her posts are biting... compelling... thought provoking... She is currently my favorite read.

Laura's Miscellaneous Musings - Laura also started blogging around the same time I did. Laura is my calm. She quietly points out important headlines and provides her own thoughtful commentary. I visit Laura to get the latest on Disneyland or a detailed review on a movie classic. Laura offers subtle insight that can not be found elsewhere.

DragonLady's World - former Air force, this gal introduced me to the term "link-whore". For that I am eternally grateful. (How am I doing?) DL is also a great source for a good joke.

Semper Gratus - Gunn Nutt loves our military men and women. She tirelessly provides information on her blog not to mention all the volunteer work she does. We should all be so dedicated.

The Reign of Ellen - Ellen like Wonder Woman had taken a bit of a break, but she has recently returned and I am so happy. First and foremost, she is a mom and she writes about her daughter and her own parenting skills... Unlike so many other mommy blogs... Ellen makes herself incredibly vulnerable. She really puts it out there for you- she uses herself as an example...She writes about depression. Also... her artwork is tremendous. Visit her blog if for only one reason... check out her children's books. Her illustrations are sweet.

-Jo... read this one.

Shallow and Tacky - I go here to get my fill of empty calories... This is my bag of Lays potato chips and pound of M&M's... funny funny stuff here.

Last Girl on Earth - Deni is a musician and lives in NYC... She is energy and wide eyed wonder-- she is an ambassador for her town. I vicariously live through her... note to self... I need to add her myspace site to my sidebar...

There are others... go to my sidebar and click on the drop down menu for "Places I Go".

Thank you ladies!

Hold onto, on to your innocence
Stand your ground when everyone's giving in

This one's for the girls

This is for all you girls about twenty-five
In a little apartment, just trying to get by
Living on, on dreams and spaghetti-o's
Wondering where your life is gonna go

Who's wished upon a shooting star
You're beautiful the way you are
This one's for the girls
Who love without holding back
Who dream with everything they have
All around the world
This one's for the girls

This is for all you girls about forty-two
Tossing pennies into The Fountain of Youth
Every laugh, laugh line on your face
Made you who you are today

This one's for the girls
Who's ever had a broken heart

HE Set My Feet on Solid Ground

Partly Cloudy - Hi 93 Lo 68 for Baghdad, Iraq
Partly Cloudy - Hi 46 Lo 28 for Northern KY, USA

Song of the week: 40,
U2

I had just come back from the mall. I couldn't wait to listen to the album I had purchased--War by U2. I ran down to my basement bedroom, stripped the album out of the confines of the shopping bag, and then threw the bag on the bed where it landed on my Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls- wonderful over sized dolls that my grandfather had won in a raffle for me.

I carefully removed the plastic from the album. I stared at the angry boy on the cover- it's the same kid from their album Boy only a little older. What an incredible photograph. I should be so lucky to capture that kind of emotion on my 35mm Pentax.

I opened the album jacket and on the left were the lyrics to all the songs... ah... don't look... not yet... on the right side there was a black and white photo of the band-- the lighting was bleached and the edges were not sharp-- not quite a dreamy landscape, but the imagery emoted cold and barren emptiness... besides I couldn't really see Larry Mullen's face... I always had a thing for drummers...

I pulled the black vinyl disc from it's sleeve and gingerly placed that brand new album on my ultra cool Soundesign Stereo.... I sat on the floor and listened to the words as I poured over the album reading the lyrics ... looking intently at all the information given... memorizing all the names of the additional musicians and the producer of the album. Right or wrong, it was the first history lesson that gave me cause to pay attention--Sunday Bloody Sunday. I had been awakened to a world outside my own.

I look back and I am saddened that my nieces and nephews will not be able to experience music in that manner.... Art work on a CD cover is too small to appreciate and an iPod doesn't smell like new waxed cardboard and vinyl....

Ramble: (this is a long one... get your coffee...)

My journey into the Christian faith is probably more common than I think. As a child, I really wasn't exposed to religion of any kind- as an adult I can reflect back and I now realize that the adults of my childhood were dealing with their own demons and struggling with their own beliefs or lack there of. On occasion, my grandfather would take my brother and me to church when we were little. I think those were the times when he was trying to get right with God and out of some sense of obligation wanted to make sure we made it to Heaven too. I still have the little pocket New Testament Bible that was given to me by the pastor. I once went to Sunday school at my great grandmother's church. That was horrific. I was mortified and scared to death after that lesson- I must have been seven or eight years old. It was made quite clear to me that I was going to burn in hell unless I got right with God. On her death bed my great grandmother (Mamaw) spoke in tongues as had been witnessed by me as a child and it always freaked me out.

My grandmother never spoke about her beliefs. I know she was raised Episcopalian. I know she was baptized as such. The only story she tells dealing with faith was when her daughter died. My namesake died from Leukemia at the tender age of five. Unlike my friend Tony and his family, my grandmother's heart hardened and she became angry with God when the minister was unable to provide her with words of comfort and to make sense of her loss. I don't think she has ever forgiven Him for taking her daughter so soon.

One day when I was seven or eight we had a knock on the the door. My mother opened the door and it was two handsome young men in dark suits smiling and holding bibles. Yes, the Mormons had arrived and their timing was impeccable. We didn't realize it, but we were needy- not just for basic necessities, but for something greater. We were starved for something to fill our hearts and these 19 year olds on their mission trips explained that the Bible and the Book of Mormon were to be read hand in hand, that the book of Mormon was modern day prophecy set in America- that Joseph Smith was a modern day prophet of God. At the same time these two young men were providing sustenance for our souls they were providing much needed father figures to two young impressionable children - Terry and I. Being in the church, we found that to the Mormons, family is the most important thing. We all wanted that desperately. My mother was eventually baptized as a Mormon, but as we grew older we slowly drifted away from the church.

The following events are somewhat out of sequence since much of this happened in the same time frame. Please understand that I have left a lot out... in addition to LDS and Buddhism, I explored several Christian faiths. I stuck with YF because it was non-denominational. Also understand this was a short time span in my life, but the most confusing and volatile part of my adolescence--- wait I take that back.

In my teens, a knock came once again on our door. We weren't as needy monetarily. As a teen I was starving for something... And I opened the door and this time two handsome young men in dark suits were smiling and holding bibles ready to discuss the word of God. I let them in... after all, they were pretty cute and I knew they were either 18 or 19 years old... not that much older than me... Elder Brady was soooo cute. Elder Stephens was cute too, but not as cute as Elder Brady. Needless to say, I became involved in the church again as did my mother and brother. Slowly, my brother and mother drifted away from the church and it's teachings. I continued to attend. I would go with a girl named Laurie. Her parents were non practicing Catholics.

Simultaneously to me going back to the Mormon church I started attending a Youth Fellowship Group with the United Methodist church down the road from me. There, I met other teens (from my school and surrounding areas) that were rock solid in their faith. Their FAITH. What did I believe? I dunno....

In this same time frame, my mother asked me to attend a Buddhist convention in Chicago. She thought it would be fun. On the long drive up to Chicago I learned how to chant. I learned that you chant for others, not yourself. In this unselfish act, you make yourself open to having good things happen to you. Concurrently with this lesson I found out my actions in life good or bad will lead to similar results-- I do good things for others, good things will happen to me... bad things for others will lead to bad things happening to me--- yeah... Karma. I eventually learned about The Four Noble Truths - suffering, origin of suffering, the end of suffering, a path to ending suffering. Needless to say, To a teen looking to be unique and non conforming-- Buddhism seemed pretty appealing. As a side note, I met Patrick Duffy at the convention. Since I did not watch Dallas I had no idea who he was, but the other kids I was hanging out with were thrilled!

The church elders approached me and asked if I would take a trip with the rest of the Mormon kids to Temple in Washington D.C. I had already been baptized in the church. I was a tithing member... Anyway, we were to do baptisms for the dead- folks that died without the chance to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ. This had to be spring break---maybe my sophomore year in high school?? I'll have to go look at the photos. The trip to Washington was a blast. Temple is extraordinary. You can not believe how beautiful it is inside. Moroni on top of the highest point... One of my friends on the trip explained the three kingdoms to me... telestial, terrestrial, and celestial. LDS believes that not everyone has been given the chance to hear the word of God. Those that die prior to hearing his teachings are provided the opportunity to decide where they wanted to go when we go to Temple and do the baptisms for the dead. We are baptized in their name... the dead have a direct ticket to the celestial kingdom if they so choose. The room where the baptisms are held is immense. You walk up steps to get in the water... as I recall everything was gold.... spectacular. I was submerged a few times in the name of various dead folks... One of the names was Elizabeth Taylor... The name struck me as funny... I pictured Dan Akroyd on Saturday night live doing his caricature of Elizabeth Taylor choking on a chicken bone. I knew right then and there this was wrong and it was impossible for me to take the name of someone else and be baptized on their behalf. I said nothing at the time, but upon my return home, I spoke with the bishop and it was decided that I would leave the church. I have never regretted that decision. I miss the folks in the church. Never will you find people that are kinder, never will you find people that are more devoted to their families.

I eventually lost interest in Buddhism too- I found it to be a narcissistic religion and as a teenager it worked for me... I simply stopped chanting and burning incense.

I continued with the Youth Fellowship group. One night while alone in my room for reasons that are known to only the Lord and me, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and I have never regretted that decision. I'm not the Christian I should be, but I do not deny God and I pray to him often. He knows my heart. Shortly after I accepted Jesus Christ and became born again... I quickly became a backslidin' Christian. I struggle to this day to be the Christian He wants me to be... but it is a struggle.

Happy Easter. He is risen.

Psalm 40 **New Living Translation**

1 I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
3 He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord.
4 Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord,
who have no confidence in the proud
or in those who worship idols.
5 O Lord my God, you have performed many wonders for us.
Your plans for us are too numerous to list.
You have no equal.
If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds,
I would never come to the end of them.

6 You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings.
Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand—
you don’t require burnt offerings or sin offerings.
7 Then I said, “Look, I have come.
As is written about me in the Scriptures:
8 I take joy in doing your will, my God,
for your instructions are written on my heart.”

9 I have told all your people about your justice.
I have not been afraid to speak out,
as you, O Lord, well know.
10 I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart;
I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power.
I have told everyone in the great assembly
of your unfailing love and faithfulness.

11 Lord, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me.
Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me.
12 For troubles surround me—
too many to count!
My sins pile up so high
I can’t see my way out.
They outnumber the hairs on my head.
I have lost all courage.

13 Please, Lord, rescue me!
Come quickly, Lord, and help me.
14 May those who try to destroy me
be humiliated and put to shame.
May those who take delight in my trouble
be turned back in disgrace.
15 Let them be horrified by their shame,
for they said, “Aha! We’ve got him now!”

16 But may all who search for you
be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!”
17 As for me, since I am poor and needy,
let the Lord keep me in his thoughts.
You are my helper and my savior.
O my God, do not delay.

Charlie Daniels: A Man I'd Like to Meet

The Bull from The Bull Speaks stopped by overnight, so I went and visited him this morning. There he posted about that SOB country singer/songwriter, "Devil Went Down to Georgia", hilljack, Charlie Daniels.

I wish we had more like him.

Mr. Daniels has a website and on the forum section has posted an open letter to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi....

An Open Letter to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi

Dear Sir and Madam,

You have said often enough that you don't believe in the war in Iraq and
that you want to bring the troops home. Yet all you do is talk and sign
non-binding resolutions which only goes to show that you really don't mean
what you say about ending the war or that you're just playing political
games and in doing so giving aid and comfort to a dedicated enemy.

Now if you're serious about ending the war you have the means and the votes to do just that. Simply cut off the funding for the troops, bring them all home and the American people can transfer the deed to this war and the
ramifications of what you do to the Democrat party and you can live with the results.

You say you support the troops, but that has to be a lie. If you supported
them and you truly think the war is wrong, you'd bring them home or either
dispense with the poisonous rhetoric and get in behind them and help them
get the job done.

You can't have it both ways. If you support the troops do something. Your
party won a majority in both houses, so you have control so take the
responsibility.

Of course, I think you should remember that when the terrorists follow us
home from Iraq and start their attacks on American soil it's too late, so
you'd better have a plan to deal with it. Do you have a plan?

And if Iran goes into Iraq and makes it a staging ground for Al Qaida to
plan and carry out attacks all over the western world you'll need to deal
with that. Do you have a plan?

And if Iran decides to go into Kuwait and cut off the oil flow from the
Persian Gulf, you'll need a way to make up for the shortfall. Do you have a
plan?

The world would look at us as a country that has not finished a commitment to war since 1945. Do you have a plan for dealing with that?

The purpose of this letter is to call your bluff. I don't believe you have
the guts to do anything but talk and talk is cheap. Oh you have no shortage of words but I seriously doubt the amount of backbone you have.

Do you really think that signing a non binding resolution is really fooling
anybody into thinking you're anything less than career politicians trying to tip the scales of the O08 Presidential Election.

What you're doing is silly and dangerous. If you really don't like what's
going on, change it, do something about it. You've got the power but have
you got the guts?

Pray for our troops.

What do you think?

God Bless America
Charlie Daniels

We all need to do our part and contact our Congressman and Senators... we need to let them know what we think.... need to keep the pressure on... make it part of the weekly routine, ya know?

Again, we need more patriotic men like Charlie Daniels. God bless him, God Bless America.

Another Meme!!!!

I was tagged by DragonLady. Click here to visit her. She is funny and foul mouthed- she's great!! She has a couple of kids and she served in the Air Force for 8 years. She pretty much stays non political, but I know which side of the fence she is on.... so she is aces in my book.... besides I suspect she could probably kick my butt...

And since Scootertrash Hubby is still sleeping... I figured... why not... why not do this stupid meme.... no where to freaking go since it is snowing again!!

.:: Brief interruption - Coffee required to focus on Meme ::.

Anyway, here are the game rules:

Each player starts with posting 6 weird things about themselves. Persons/blogs who get tagged should write something of their own and state the rules clearly on their respective blog. Then select an additional 6 bloggers to be tagged and list their names. Leave a comment that says you have been tagged in their comments section and hope they don’t hate you after tagging them.

All right... I could cheat... I did a meme similar to this one way back here, but I have so many issues that there really isn't a need for me to recycle "weird" things about my own person... If you don't feel like clicking back...

6 Weird Habits... from a December 2005 Meme....

#1 I ramble. See above. (some things never change)

#2 I burp loudly whenever or where ever the urge hits me.... Michael always follows it up with, "Better?.... My delicate flower?" Michael is so proud...

#3 I get sayings wrong... For instance... "A watched pot boils eventually" ... or "A shut mouth gathers no food" ... or "Count your chickens before they hatch"... Nice, huh?

#4 I have conversations with my cats... When Michael is out and about and it is just the cats and me... I will talk to them... and sometimes they talk to me..................................... I'm serious.

#5 I love to swear... Four letter words are not only a habit... it's a hobby...This is an awful awful awful thing... I really have to keep it in check at work... in front of children... here...

#bonus I love to use ".............................." a lot.

OK... NOW ...

DragonLady's 6 Weird Things

1. My biggest fear is falling UP stairs-- The thought of hitting my chin and cracking my front teeth just flips me out. I'm much more cognizant walking up stairs than walking down stairs... in fact... I've fallen down our stairs of our house many times... thank goodness for carpet...

2. I love making lists. I have lists for everything... I used to keep a Franklin planner back in my "career" days, but then moved to Outlook.... I love the task list... but I find it satisfying to hand write "to do" lists and use a highlighter when a task has been completed. If the list gets messy, I will rewrite it... leaving the things already accomplished on there... just so I can highlight them... again...

3. I am also a freak about organizing things. Everything must have a place and everything must be in it's place. Media organized- alphabetically and then by release date- I.E. The Police- left to right Synchronicity 1983, Ghosts in the Machine 1981, Zenyatta Mondatta 1980, Regatta de Blanc 1979, and Outlandos d'Amour 1978. With that said, things don't stay organized... why? because I have a husband that is anti-organized... [sigh]

.:: Scootertrash hubby is now awake and suggested ::.

4. I have inherited from my mother the wonderful ability to answer a question that was not asked. (This is the example Michael always sights)
Cathy: Mom, what kind of crackers are these? They are really good!
Cathy's Mother: Deese is ex-SPEN-sive crackahs!

5. I have selective hearing... if I am watching television or in front of this computer... won't hear ya if you are talking to me...

6. I can fall asleep anywhere at anytime.... except when I need to sleep....

Now... who to tag... first paybacks are really important to cover....

SeeJaneMom - Jane in her early days of blogging sent a lovely little Christmas meme
Drunken Wisdom - That 1 Guy sent me a picture meme
The Trouble With Angels - Potentially, 2 for the price of one--- Diane and Mel. Diane sent the music meme...
Peakah's Provocations - Josh sent me the weird habits meme... Although he is on a break... thought I'd leave him a note for when he returns...

Now for those that have send me traffic...

Dakota Ranger - I love those forums you belong to!
Laura's Miscellaneous Musings - She is so smart and thoughtful and nice!

And now for those that are highly unlikely to do this meme but I want to show my undying affection....

Nickie Remembered

I just found out that one of my favorite bloggers passed away- Nickie Goomba.

I would visit his blog every day... sometimes I would leave a comment, most of the time I would just laugh... He was so funny!! If I left a comment, he was always polite and responded with a little note for me... a wink and a nod-- but of course he did that consistently for anyone that visited his blog... He always responded to email and even helped me once with a technical issue I was having with my blog...

Because of Nickie, I was fortunate enough to become friends with some wonderful Italian bloggers--my eyes were opened to a world view of America. Once, he helped me translate an email from an Italian blogger.... My new found appreciation for Italy and all things Italian goes to Mr. Goomba.

Nickie was one of the good guys....

I will miss him.

Tonight Michael and I will raise a glass and toast Nickie's name and remember our friend.

Go visit DC. The friendship Daisy Cutter and Nickie had was so apparent to anyone that read either blog .... DC's tribute to his friend confirms that.

Arrivederci Caro Mio!

That 1 Guy Made Me Do It

I was minding my own business when Joe, that 1 guy over at Drunken Wisdom sent me an email.

I haven't been doing very good at keeping up with blogs, so I've decided to make up for it by punishing you guys with a meme. Heheheh...

I'd say that you don't really have to do it, but I won't. Do it, or no drinks when we meet...

Now... although painfully delinquent... I have finally completed my freakin' assignment... I admit this one was fun... You can find Joe's post here.

The rules for this meme:

  1. Choose a search engine
  2. Pick 5 random blogfriends
  3. Think of a word or phrase that describes each friend
  4. Do an image search of that word or phrase
  5. Pick an image that makes you say, "Aha! That's it!"
  6. By the way-- if you see your name below... Tag.... You're it!!! (Although, you do not have to participate if you don't want to...)

Michael from Scootertrash Conservative

Don from The Truckin' Blog
Lone Ranger from Important Stuff or Not

Diane from Diane's Stuff

Master Jedi Rob from Beware the Dark Side

And a big thank you to Joe from Drunken Wisdom! That was fun!

Update:

Diane has completed her meme.

Don't Shoot Me, I'm Just The Piano Player

A few days ago, I received the following email from the lovely and talented Diane.

"I just tagged you with an easy blogosphere meme pool game that, even if you've played it before, will likely be a piece of cake. That's what the person that tagged me said anyway. LOL! SEE this post."

As usual, my job kicked me in the butt all week and I had little time to work on this post. But since I have wished the week away (My mantra during the week is -- I wish it were Friday or I can't wait until Friday or some variation like, I prefer to be anywhere but here... hmmmm root canal or the job-- root canal hands down wins every time... ), Friday has finally arrived... Before I get the weekend started w/ my husband... I wanted to finish this...

My assignment:

List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your blog along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they’re listening to. Just link here and trackback when you make your list, and tell the folks you tag to do the same so you can enjoy their posts.

This is a fun meme!! Now, when I listen to music... I'm old school and listen to an entire album... so to pick one song is really kind of tricky and in some cases, impossible. I felt pretty good about the fact that I bent the rules only once. So, with that said, here is my list...

Artist // Song // Album

1.Frank Sinatra: Fly Me to the Moon, Sinatra at the Sands with Count Basie and His Orchestra

This is one of my all time favorite albums. Sinatra is the epitomy of cool... He's in Vegas... he tells some stories and sings a song or two...

2. Jack Johnson: Good People, In Between Dreams

I have Josh to thank for turning me on to this guy. I can't get enough of Jack. I am instantly relaxed and in Hawaii when I listen to him.

3.

Hem: the entire album, Eveningland

I am blown away by this entire album and I'm not just saying that because I knew one of the guys in the band once upon a time. I am taken to another place and another time when I listen to Sally's voice. The arrangements are comforting and soothing to the heart and soul.... Probably my favorite band right now...

4.
Elvis Costello: Tokyo Storm Warning, Blood and Chocolate

I have always liked Elvis. I like what he is doing today. He even collaborated with Burt Bachrach a few years ago and I loved that. I liked Elvis so much that I once dated someone because he looked like Elvis Costello...

5.

Dionne Warwick: I Say A Little Prayer, The Very Best of Dionne Warwick

Before Dionne was part of the Psychic Network, before she was Whitney "crack is whack" Houston's aunt, Dionne sang a song or two. There is a part of me that will always love those goofy poppy songs from the 60's and 70's... (this was a toss up between Dionne and Petula Clark- love her too)....

6.
Talking Heads: Naive Melody - Speaking in Tongues

I think if I were to comment any more on the Talking Heads would be a bit much...

7.
Three Dog Night: Never Been to Spain, Harmony

I have 2 good memories of my Dad... Listening to Three Dog Night with him is one of those memories. Joy to the World was a song the SD used to sing at the top of his lungs... I will always be grateful for Three Dog Night.

That's it... I'll let this meme die here with me therefore I will not pass it on to anyone else. If you are so inclined, feel free to start it up again!

See you Sunday!

Partly Sunny - Hi 62 Lo 44 for Baghdad, Iraq
Sunny - Hi 31 Lo 22 for Northern KY, USA

Song of the week: This Must be the Place (Naive Melody),
Talking Heads

I'm sure I've written this before, but the best concert I ever attended was The Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense Tour. It was at Miami University's Millett Hall (Oxford, Ohio). As you can see to the left, I'm a pack rat and I still have my ticket stub and yes the concert cost a whopping $10.00 and yes we had really good seats too! David Byrne and company could actually carry a tune - live. It was a concert that filled the senses and one that I didn't want to end... it was completely theatrical, besides, I loved them. As I recall, the concert started with David Byrne alone on stage singing Psycho Killer. With each song, the road crew continued to add props and instruments to the stage and one by one a different member of the band came out on stage to perforn until this crescendo of sight and sound had everyone in the hall standing and singing and dancing. It was pure entertainment... no political blah blah blah... It was truly a great night and one that I don't expect to ever forget.

I was 18 at the time. I went with Jimi, Monkey, Bubba and Sophia. We had a blast. I remember looking at my friends and thinking and believing I would be with these people for the rest of my life... Funny, how things change. So, I am left with the fond memories and of course with The Talking Heads...

So, today as I was looking for a song for this Sunday's post, I came across Naive Melody. I've always liked the song... It is optimistic with a tinge of cynicism... right up my alley... And as I listened to the words for the one millionth time... I looked around my home and I thought of my husband and realized how fortunate I am. Michael is my home. Without him, I'd be lost and homeless. Funny, how the meaning of a song can change as we get older...

Blogs to Check Out This Week:

I would be remiss to not mention that most of the blogs I have "discovered" came from perusing other blog rolls of some of my favorite reads... among them are Diane's Stuff, Laura's Miscellaneous Musings and Spiced Sass. So, thank you ladies!

Musings from the Imperial Senate - A military dude that "once was a staunch Republican, but now a Libertarian" oh and just a hunch, but I believe he likes Star Wars.

Clear Lake Reflections - What a wonderful blog! Fun-- Mark offers up "warm fuzzies" photos and posts like this one. I like this guy!

Kool Aid Report - I like Kool Aid and according to my liberal friends, I drink a lot of it... so, when I found this blog... how could I resist a big gulp?

The Texican Tattler - I'm not sure why, but I have noticed I have a growing attraction to everything Texan. Is it true that everything is bigger in Texas?

Semicolon - A great place to go and get reviews on books and an interesting perspective on life. A mom of 8!!! Yes 8!!! - not to mention, another Texan!

Artcyclopedia - A wonderful resource to locate art museums and to study art movements and masterpieces.

Housekeeping:

After careful consideration, I've decided to maintain my weekly music video. It's my signature and to remove it would be taking away my inspiration- if you will. It was suggested that I take the video off for a few days so that anyone with a slower computer might have a better chance of reading my blog. OK- great suggestion! So, what I will do for now is pull the video off on Mondays and Tuesdays. That way all 16 of you that visit me then will have a quicker time of it.... Again, let me know if this helps the speed...

Home is where I want to be
Pick me up and turn me round
I feel numb - born with a weak heart
So I guess I must be having fun
The less we say about it the better
Make it up as we go along
Feet on the ground
Head in the sky
It's ok I know nothing's wrong . . nothing

I got plenty of time
You got light in your eyes
And you're standing here beside me
I love the passing of time
Never for money
Always for love
Cover up say goodnight . . . say goodnight

Home - is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there
I come home she lifted up her wings
Guess that this must be the place
I can't tell one from another
Did I find you, or you find me?
There was a time Before we were born
If someone asks, this where I'll be . . . where I'll be

We drift in and out
Sing into my mouth
Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I'm dead
Eyes that light up, eyes look through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head Ah ooh...

By the way, if you don't have it in your music collection I highly recommend getting it...

OH-- and to Vice President Cheney- I still love you!

Have a great week everyone!

Tagged... the pressure!!!

OK... I'm finally getting around to this... (note to self...get some sleep it is 3:30AM... why are you awake?)

Cutie pie Joshua over at Peakah's Provocations tagged me with a meme here. What on God's green earth is a meme? Well, thanks to girlfriend Diane who was tagged also, I now know... Thanks Diane. I am supposed to name my 5 weirdest habits... OK... "we" are going to give this a go... not sure if this is my thing....Once I have completed this task... I then in turn get to tag someone else... who will then curse my name and mumble "what the heck is a meme?" Well if they had just clicked above... they'd know, now wouldn't they? I tend to take things of this nature way too seriously... and it is all in fun... right? Riiiigggghhhhhtttttt........... I will obsess over something like this... Should I be funny? Should I go serious? Should I just ignore it? OK... what if I try to be funny and it's not... funny... OK... well, then I could be serious... divulge real weird crap about myself... Yeah, now that's a great idea... really expose my jugular for all to slash... yeah... brilliant... I could of course just ignore it... and potentially subject myself to being an outcast... "does not play well with others" type of thing. I've been called "intense". What the heck is that supposed to mean? HUH? Can we make this my first one? I think we can! WooHOO 1 down 4 to go!!

#1 I ramble. See above.

OK... pretty painless... now it's time to pass this meme to others....

I pick:

Michael
Rob
Roberto
Wonder Woman
Chrys

Go to it... share your 5 weirdest habits...

Let me please breakdown...

Mostly Sunny Hi 76 Lo 56 for Baghdad, Iraq ** first time since I started this blog that it was "mostly" in Baghdad. Enjoy the weather fellas...
Cloudy, Rainy, Windy Hi 63 Lo 41 for Northern Kentucky, USA

Featured Song of the Week: Breakdown, Jack Johnson

Hi All-

I'm keeping this Sunday's blog short (in theory---I can never be short when rambling)... Quite frankly, I'm mentally drained. My job has been kicking me in the backside for three solid weeks and I don't see it subsiding anytime soon. My weekends right now are incredibly precious....precious...my precious...

I've done some housekeeping around here. I've given up on having a playlist for now. I've killed some stuff I don't use. Cleaning is good... mindless, methodical work is good... yes... very good...

I have added some blogs to a few of my blogrolls-- especially the "have some more coffee" blog roll. I've been reading a lot of mil blogs and mom blogs... go figure... I really like this gal at Mommy Needs Coffee.

I discovered Diane had really cool stuff when I was checking out Joshua's plaid flannel. Check out Diane's radioblog... nice mix of older stuff... Both these folks are just as nice as can be.

Please visit my dear friends Master Jedi Rob and Wonder Woman. Both will be brilliant and witty and wonderful.

Go visit Michael and tell him I told you to stop by. Who is he? He is the love my life. Thank God I have him.

I'm all right... I'm tired... and when I'm tired, I'm emotional...usually angry and foul mouthed... but now I'm just weepy... What the hell?? My wiring right now is frantic...I don't know how to "turn off" work sometimes... Thanks to Coffee and Varnish... click on the link below. It sums up what has been happening at work...and subsequently in my brain.... just wish it were this tidy... I stared at this for wow... a long time....

I hope this old train breaks down
Then I could take a walk around
And, see what there is to see
And time is just a melody
All the people in the street
Walk as fast as their feet can take them
I just roam through town
And though my windows got a view
The frame im looking through
Seems to have no concern for me now
So for now

I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown

This engine screams out loud
Sayin the beat gunna crawl westbound
So I dont even make a sound
Cause its gunna sting me when I leave this town
All the people in the street
That i'll never get to meet
If these dont bend somehow
And I got no time
That I got to get to
Where I dont need to be
So I

I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I wanna break on down
But I cant stop now
Let me break on down

But you cant stop nothing
If you got no control
Of the thoughts in your mind
That you kept in, you know
You don't know nothing
But you don't need to know
The wisdoms in the trees
Not the glass windows
You cant stop wishing
If you don't let go
But things that you find
And you lose, and you know
You keep on rolling
Put the moment on hold
The frames too bright
So put the blinds down low

I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I need this here
Old train to breakdown
Oh please just
Let me please breakdown
I wanna break on down
But I cant stop now

I'll leave you with some pictures from our trip up to Amish Country last weekend.... Have a great week everyone!!
