Who are you quoting-- Sarah or Tina?

Maybe you can help explain the point of this article in The Times.

The headline reads Hillary Clinton praises Sarah Palin. There are 3 short paragraphs reporting the Clinton's have offered compliments about Sarah. Bill Clinton said, “I come from Arkansas, I get why she’s hot out there.” The remaining 7 paragraphs are about Tina Fey's portrayal of Sarah Palin and the many one liner zingers performed on Saturday Night Live. Now I can tell you I have laughed at these... but can we have a little substance? Please? What was the point of the 3 lousy paragraphs at the introduction of the article?

Hillary Clinton praises Sarah Palin
Sarah Baxter

HILLARY CLINTON, Barack Obama’s defeated opponent in the Democratic primary, has infuriated his supporters by praising Sarah Palin, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, for her performance in last week’s television debate.

“It is amazing, you know, she’s been thrust in the spotlight with very little national preparation and I think, all things considered, you saw a very composed and effective debater,” Clinton said.

Her husband Bill recently issued some compliments of his own. “I come from Arkansas, I get why she’s hot out there,” he said.

Her husband’s lukewarm endorsement of Obama was parodied on Saturday Night Live, the satirical show that has become must-see television after the deadly accurate portrayals of Palin by Tina Fey, the comedian.

During her debate with Joe Biden, her Democratic rival, Palin had provided perfect new material for Fey by winking at the audience and using colloquialisms such as “doggone it” and “you betcha!” Fey, 38, creator and star of 30 Rock, the comedy show, mocked the Alaska governor’s descent into gibberish when interviewed by Katie Couric, the CBS newscaster.

The comedian scored again last night with her parody of Palin's debate performance, using some of the Alaska governor's exact words. "Can I call you Joe?" Fey-as-Palin asked Biden. "Because I've practised a couple of zingers where I call you Joe."

She went on to say, "May I say, up close, your hair plugs don't look nearly as bad as people said?" Asked if she would like to answer a specific question, she said, "No thank you, but I would like to talk about being an outsider."

She gave a "shout-out" to the third graders of Gladys Wood Elementary "who were so helpful to me in my debate prep," and said, "We don't know if this climate change - whoosie, whatsit - is man made or if it is just a natural part of the end of days." Asked to give a closing statement, she pulled out a flute and said, "Are we not going to do the talent portion?"

Asked about visiting the United Nations, Fey-as-Palin said she was disheartened to find that so many interesting people there were foreigners. How had things gone? “They embraced me figuratively and a couple of them Pakistani guys literally.” She then referred to Bono, the U2 singer and activist, as the King of Ireland.

Challenged to explain how Alaska’s proximity to Russia gives her foreign policy experience, she replied: “Every morning, when Alaskans wake up, one of the first things they do is look outside to see if there are any Russians hanging around. If there are, you gotta ask, ‘What are you doing here?’ and if you can’t give them a good reason, it’s our responsibility to say, you know, ‘Shoo! Get back over there!’”

Go see for yourself...

Song of the week: Pretty Vacant, Sex Pistols

Michael was going through some of his old American Spectator magazines and asked me to read an interview Greg Gutfeld had with Johnny Rotten from the Sex Pistols last October. Michael is a good man and knows that I liked them a lot once upon a time... For the music? Yeah... but probably more for the attitude. Rebellion against the establishment? I was 13! Of course not! Rebellion against my mom? Maybe... a little... No it was rebellion because I wanted to be different... unique... blah blah blah... I wanted to stand out... Again, I was a kid... and kids are narcissitic. Listening to this kind of music in my suburban little piece of the world would certainly stir things up. I was 13 when I bought this album (along with the soundtrack to Grease.... shh... don't tell anyone.)

The Sex Pistols only released this one album... I still have it on vinyl, but never replaced it on CD. I'm not sure why... I really should... I need to share it with my oldest niece... She'll hate it... but that's the point. Their music is intended to be repulsive, vulgar, and yes a little frightening. I suppose, like Johnny Rotten, I've also grown up... grown older... wiser (maybe) and I'm not angry like that any longer. When I think of Johnny Rotten, I actually think of him when he was with Public Image, Ltd.... One of my favorite songs when I was an angry teenager was a song called Rise--- the mantra--- "Anger is an energy."

Greg Gutfeld writes,

"When I got the Sex Pistols' debut album nearly 30 years ago, I was only 15 or so, and the LP scared the hell out of me. Johnny Rotten, the lead singer, seemed a street urchin shot straight out of hell's inner circle, and the enormously untalented Sid Vicious appeared nothing more than walking sewage. But that amazing rock record, in a matter of months, changed the way I looked at the world, the notion of "phoniness" or more importantly hippies -- the phoniest people on earth."

I hate hippies... so does Greg... so does Johnny... so there. The entire article can be read here -- A Rotten Affair by Greg Gutfeld

Ramble:

** Ohio's Primary is this Tuesday, so local television and radio have been inundated with commercials... Rush Limbaugh has sent out a request to all Ohioans and Texans to vote for Hillary. And I guess it is now old news but Cincinnati Radio Talk Show host on 700 WLW , Bill Cunningham also made news when he made comments about Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton at a rally for John McCain. John McCain redpudiated and apologized for Willy's comments.
Willy Cunningham has been part of Cincinnati radio since I was a little girl... He is an attorney and my earliest memories of him were on Friday nights at my grandparent's home listening to his radio show called Desperate and Dateless... He would take calls from single men and women and play match maker... the show was a scream. Very very funny.

Mr. Cunningham is still on 700 WLW and he is a conservative talk show radio host. He is intelligent and passionate, but first and foremost he is an entertainer-- he will say outrageous things. . that is what some talk radio is about... His ratings drop... WLW drops him...

Understand... we in Cincinnati are used to him... He is like the uncle everyone has. At Thanksgiving, he does something embarassing... and everyone just dismisses it... and says... "oh... that's just Uncle Charlie..." And despite the "hey pull my finger" antics, we still love him...

With that said, Willy was asked to warm up a crowd for John McCain-- he was asked to "give 'em some red meat... . He says the same sort of things on his radio show. Willy is not racist. He is not a bigot. Never has been... never will be. Willy always refers to folks using their full name. Always.

That is where I stop defending him. I am a believer in decorum and pomp and circumstance. For instance, I believe one should dress in a shirt and tie for church, for a wedding, a funeral, a graduation out of respect for the person, for the ceremony. Despite being told to give the crowd "red meat" Willy should have thought about his choice of words. Words do matter. On his radio program the words he chose would have been and are fine. However, this past week, he was asked to warm up a crowd for a man who could one day be the President of the United States. The President of the United States... Every four years we as Americans make a decision and PEACEFULLY turn over keys to someone different... This office has been held by a small fraternity of only 43 men... men such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, and our beloved Ronald Reagan. The Office of the Presidency is the highest in our land... We didn't like it when it was defiled by Richard Nixon or Bill Clinton- but the office prevails... our government works... John McCain wants to run his campaign in a respectful manner (not to be confused with consistent-- I.E. McCain's treatment of Donald Rumsfeld). Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton also have the same chance of winning the highest office in the land and despite the vast differences in politics, philosophy and moral standards, they too are entitled to the same respect. To be disrespectful is inexcusable....

Yes, of course John McCain's handlers should have been more cognizant of the what Bill Cunningham was all about... but ultimately, Willy should have known better... and truth be told... his reaction to the criticism shows that it was never about McCain. It has been about Willy and his ego... the fact that he is now going to vote for Hillary... well... that confirms my point.

Article and footage of Cunningham's remarks

** Shame on Matt Drudge for leaking the story about Prince Harry.... Had it been a liberal media leak... conservatives would have beeen outraged... Prince Harry follows a long tradition in British Royalty. He loves his country and wants to serve her. Leaking this story, put his life at risk as well as the men serving with and for him...

** We lost an incredible mind this week with the passing of William F. Buckley Jr. Michael has subscribed to National Review for nearly 20 years… For the longest time NR was the sole source for conservative thought and reason… I actually learned of his passing when I visited Laura. Reading her brief post literally knocked the wind out of me. More from Laura here and here.

Find more remembrances at Townhall.com and of course at National Review Online.

BlackOps has an iPod set up on his blog. His taste in music is wide and eclectic and I love it... anyway...

What is love? Makes me giggle...

Under Pressure. I have always loved this song. Recently, a commercial for Propel started airing. I love this commercial. It reminds me of an animation piece a friend did in college.

A show I have never seen but would love to is Rent.

That's What She Said

Sunny - Hi 99 Lo 76 for Baghdad, Iraq

Song of the week: Let's Live for Today, The Grass Roots

I had no idea how many songs I knew and enjoyed that were written and performed by The Grass Roots--- Midnight Confessions, Temptation Eyes, Sooner or Later, I'd Wait A Million Years. Why Grass Roots now? A deleted scene from the episode Booze Cruise in season 2 of the Office--- Creed Bratton (character name and real name in real life) does a talking head segment where he mentioned he was a member of The Grass Roots... This same scene shows him playing the blues... I understand why the scene was deleted... the line became a little blurry between fiction and reality. Then this season during the Benihana Christmas, Creed sang karaoke to his own song... Spinnin' N Reelin'... Too funny... By the way... on the album cover, Creed is on the bottom right and in the video he is paying lead guitar and standing on the left.

Ramble:

I have posted here before that I love The Office. This television show (along with Heroes) is my escape from reality during the work week. I adore the the characters--- I would be so lucky to work with folks like this...

First and foremost, of course I adore Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer)--- I want them to get together, but fear this will kill the show... you know... In watching the British version, we know they get together, but British television can be so much smarter... The Brits only keep a series for a couple of seasons... it always stays crisp and you keep yearning for more... better to do that than to have a Joanie Loves Chachi spinoff.... I was surprised that I also liked Jim's new love interest, Karen... she is a cutie patootie too. Rashida Jones plays Karen... Here is a fun little fact which I didn't know until this morning... she is the the daughter of Peggy Lipton (Mod Squad-- one of my favorite shows from the 60's--- I only saw this in reruns...never first run) and Quincy Jones. She apparently is getting her own show on Fox... so she'll be gone... John Krasinski is a cutie pie and I do have a crush on him... but that is a tad on the creepy side since he is not even 30....

Second, I love Dwight (Rainn Wilson)... I wanted a Dwight bobble head for Christmas... did I get one? No. My birthday has come and gone... Did I receive a Dwight bobble head? No. I love his talking head interviews:

How would I describe myself? Three words: hard working, alpha male, jackhammer…merciless…insatiable…

I did not become a Lackawanna County volunteer sheriff's deputy to make friends. And by the way, I haven't.

The Japanese camp guards of World War Two always chose one man to kill whenever a batch of new prisoners arrived. I always wondered how they chose the man who was to die. I think I would have been good at choosing the person.

I am greatly concerned about having a convict in the office. And I do not care if that convict is white, black, Asian, German, or some kind of halfsy. I do not like criminals.

Through concentration, I can raise and lower my cholesterol at will.

When my mother was pregnant with me, they did an ultrasound and found she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later, they discovered, that I had resorbed the other fetus. Do I regret this? No, I believe his tissue has made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man and a little baby.

Third, I love the entire ensemble---Steve Carell is magnificent as the bumbling idiot of a manager... They are all wonderful... However, my favorite character has got to be Creed... He is a nightmare... likes to steal, had to have been a hippy in the 60's, can apparently catch fish with his bare hands, he has a side business where he makes fake id's... Truly funny character...

The season finale was simply wonderful... Jan's boob job... and Jim asking Pam out... The fourth season can't get here soon enough... Ryan as Jan's replacement.... oh let the games begin... how will the date with Jim and Pam go? How will the relationship between Michael and Jan become even more dysfunctional? Will Dwight and Angela reveal their love for each other to the rest of the Office? Will Phyllis and Bob Vance of Vance Refrigeration get pregnant? Will Kevin's band Scrantonicity ever get a real gig? Will Oscar go straight? Will Toby divulge his crush on Pam? What about poor Kelly-- will she ever shut up? Will Stanley ever get that crossword puzzle finished and will he ever receive a raise? I guess I'll be watching season 1 & 2 for now and patiently waiting for Season 3 to come out on DVD. By the way... did I loan any of you Season 1? I can't find it.

Monday is Heroes season finale... I'll probably post about that next Sunday.... I love that show too, but I'm getting a little weary of the liberal lean and hint of conspiracy theory to the plot line....

Wednesday at the Movies, Reno 911: Miami

I have a confession... I love the show Reno 911. It is trashy. It is raunchy. It is sophomoric. It is definitely humor as in Married with Children... you know, guy humor. I love it...Watch the movie trailer, but it may be offensive to some.

It's a 70's Sunday!! All Weekend Long! OH.... and the Superbowl is Today... woo...hoo... !

Rain - Hi 58 Lo 45 for Baghdad, Iraq

Song of the week: Solsbury Hill,
Peter Gabriel

This is one of my all time favorite songs. I remember the first time I heard it... The album this song is on was the second album I ever bought with my own money. I never tire of this song. Some have suggested this is a song about Christ... Actually, it's about Peter Gabriel and his feelings and decision to leave Genesis as well as the birth of his child... I know his politics and I don't wish to discuss it- makes me sad. I wish I still had that album along with the Genesis album, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway... I think Monkey Man took them.....

Ramble:

First things first. As I work on this post (Saturday night- Michael's working), I am downloading the long awaited 70's Music Explosion onto my computer so I can add it to my iPod. I am listening this very second to the third track on the first disc... Midnight at the Oasis.... Something is wrong... Is music like food? Does your taste evolve? Can I equate the stylings of Maria Muldaur to Limburger cheese?
I mean I don't like Limburger cheese today... but I've heard it's an acquired taste- one that comes with age and sophistication... I just caught myself tapping my foot and singing along... OMG!! (queue screechy Psycho music). I will mark this as an old people moment... I don't want to like Limburger Cheese and I don't want to like this song... but here I am... singing along and tapping my foot and groovin' to the music....

Overall, the collection is a terrific selection of pop music from the 70's I remember hearing on the radio as a kid. (now playing: Disc 1 track 5 Summer Breeze by Seals and Crofts). This sounds ridiculous, but with the exception of Disco Duck, I NOW like many of the disco songs on this compilation-- back when they were popular... no freaking way!! When the package finally arrived, Michael and I went through all the CD's looking at the titles and we couldn't help ourselves but we went through and sang a bit from each and every song... of course, some we rolled our eyes and made faces, but we still knew the bloody words and melodies... The one thing it lacks is a decent selection of New Wave music... I would have been happy with Talking Heads... Take Me to the River or Psycho Killer, both from the late 70's, instead I have My Sharona by The Knack, which I suppose makes sense since The Knack was pop and not New Wave.... shut up Cath....

Earlier today, I was working on getting myself motivated to make a run to Target... it is brutal outside... the wind absolutely cuts through you. Sunday will be no different... I was working on my To Do list... I'm a chronic list maker. Nothing makes me happier than to cross something off that never ending list. My mind started to wander and I ended up wishing it were warm. Granted we have had one mild winter so far, the past few days have been painfully cold... hate it... As I let my mind wander Georgia O'Keeffe popped up in my mind. I instantly thought of warmth and sunshine. She also loved the American West and because of her I have always longed to make a trek out there.. one of these days... In any event I love her work-- The vibrant color palette when she painted flowers... the curvaceousness and feminine lines she chose. (now playing: Disc 3 Track 5 She's a Lady by Tom Jones) Now how does Georgia O'Keeffe fit into my 70's motif? Simple. I "discovered" Georgia O'Keeffe in the 7th grade--1977-or 1978- same year I bought Peter Gabriel's album?? I had a great art teacher-- Ms. Flower-- (can you believe it?). Mrs. Flower was cool... she was young... I'm guessing that she was in her mid twenties looking at the year book. She had long brown hippy hair, parted in the middle and she wore cool clothes --- gauchos... remember? She always had music playing in her class- she was great about telling us to listen to all kinds of music- one day she would play classical, next day jazz, another time it would be bluegrass or opera. I remember one time she brought in the soundtrack to Guys and Dolls--- sit down your rockin' the boat! I don't remember her playing pop music in the classroom though. Now that I think about it, I guess she is one of the reasons why I have such a broad range in musical taste. In fact, she was the first person to encourage my creativity and untapped "artistic talent". At lunch I would make my way down to her class because she had all these great art books with beautiful reproductions of works of art. If I appeared to show any interest in a piece of art, she would share her knowledge of the artist and the particular style. She alone ignited that fire and is the reason why I have an appreciation for art to this day. I wonder what she is doing now. I have no doubt she was a lefty... Nonetheless, I hope you had a Ms. Flower in your life that inspired you (Now playing: Disc 4 track 1 Gypsies Tramps and Thieves by Cher).

Stay Warm! Go Bears!

Solsbury Hill
by Peter Gabriel

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light

Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night

He was something to observe
Came in close I heard a voice

Standing stretching every nerve
I had to listen had no choice

I did not believe the information
Just had to trust imagination
My heart going boom-boom-boom
Son, he said, grab your things I've come to take you home
Eh, don't quit

To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut

Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut

So I went from day to day
Oh, my life was in a rut

'Til I thought of what I'd say
Which connection I should cut

I was feeling part of the scenery
I'd walk right out of the machinery
My heart going boom-boom-boom
Hey, he said, grab your things I've come to take you home
Eh, back home

When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be

And liberty, she'd pirouette
When I think that I am free

Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see

No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me

Today I don't need a replacement
I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going boom-boom-boom
Hey, I said, you can keep my things They've come to take me home

Have a great week everyone!

Ramble:

Earlier this week like everyone else, I read/heard about this:

"A morning radio show has been pulled off the air and 10 employees have been fired after a woman died last week after trying to win a Nintendo Wii video game console in a water-drinking contest at the show’s studios. The woman, Jennifer Lea Strange, 28, was one of about 18 participants who tried to win the video-game system on Friday by seeing how much water they could drink without going to the bathroom. Ms. Strange drank nearly two gallons over two hours, according to a contestant. She was found dead several hours later. Preliminary autopsy findings indicated the cause was water intoxication."

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Published: January 17, 2007

Local News Coverage and video

OK... so this woman, mother of a couple of kids, loving wife, blah blah blah decides that the only way she can get a Wii for her family is to enter this contest. OK.... fine. The woman like the other contestants signs a release form... relieving the station and it's employees of any liability... OK...fine. She dies from water intoxication.... sad and stupid waste, but OK... fine... The family intends to sue... OK... fine. My question is not "Why was this woman so stupid?" (I am assuming she was informed of the risks involved with drinking so much water without any potty breaks) My question is not "Who made the executive decision at the radio station that this was a good idea?" My question is, "When and why did this become entertainment??" Have we become so fat and lazy as a society that shows such as Jackass became part of our pop culture? I have even caught a couple episodes of recent America's Funniest Home Videos and folks falling down or seemingly getting hurt in one way or another seems to be a main staple. How did we get from Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan to bloody wrestling matches using chairs and ladders and simulated sex acts in a ring????What about the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championships)? You are in a caged ring and fight until you give up or the rare occasion when the referee calls it because you have been beaten to a bloody pulp. Why is it that we give a rat's behind over the likes of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohen, and Britney God Help Us Spears -- Celebrity for the sake of celebrity. The list of what is construed as entertainment today is endless and mindless.... I do not exempt myself as a holier than thou on this topic either... the only part of American Idol that I watch are the opening weeks of the season with the auditions... why am I compelled to watch folks embarass themselves and then watch judges be mean, nasty, and rude? Why do I find that entertaining?

Or what about this? "A prostitute presents a creation from the Daspu Fall/Winter 2007-2008 collection in Rio de Janeiro January 19, 2007. Daspu is a fashion house founded and run by prostitutes whose designs have become the talk of Brazil's fashion industry nine months after its start. Its success has surprised its founders, who see its sudden prominence as a revolutionary moment for a country long ambivalent about its world-famous sex industry."
Reuters

"The Roman satirist Juvenal, writing in the first century AD, lamented that "the people that once bestowed commands, consulships, legions, and all else, now meddles no more and longs eagerly for just two things, 'bread and circuses'. Juvenal had the misfortune of living in a time when the civic virtues of the early Roman republic were a distant memory, when the moral dry rot, which eventually destroyed Rome from within, was already far advanced. Juvenal saw that the Roman citizenry had become so addicted to entertainment and pleasure that they had lost the capability of governing
themselves. Juvenal's scornful term 'panem et circenses or bread and circuses'has become synonymous with mindless self-gratification."

Steve Bonta

I would love to say I'm optimistic for our country and our collective soul, but I'd be lying... Someone please reassure me...please!!!

"Ben Franklin warned that 'only a virtuous people are capable of freedom'. Great republics die like aging trees, from the inside out. By the time of Juvenal, Rome was at the height of her imperial splendor, seen from the outside. But within, the Rome that had produced men like Cicero and Scipio was already gone. The hollow shell of empire persisted for centuries thereafter, but its demise had already been largely determined, because the Roman citizenry had come to prefer diversion over virtue."

Steve Bonta

The Genius of Infomercials... (kill me now)

Mostly sunny - Hi 106 Lo 78 for Baghdad, Iraq
Mostly sunny - Hi 73 Lo 53 for Northern KY, USA

Song of the week: American Music,
Violent Femmes

Ramble:

I have a confession. It's one I'm not very proud of. [taking deep breath...]

I'm a sucker for infomercials. There... I said it... er uh... wrote it..

Several years ago, I was in a car accident that left me bedridden for 8 weeks. When that happened, I discovered the wonderful world of QVC... I bought Michael a KitchenAid mixer... when I called, QVC put me on air... I was a freakin' celebrity just for being a "first timer"! As for other purchases I made from my medical bed in the family room... that's between me, Visa and Federal Express...Thankfully, I eventually went back to work and never looked back... but the seed was planted........ [deep sigh]

A few years later, I developed insomnia... Now, dear readers, this is the genius of infomercials. Insomnia for me, is a goofy thing. I wake up and flip on the television... since I really don't want to be awake, I don't raid the fridge, definitely no caffeine... just a bit of a stupor... complete faculties are not there... The producers of infomercials depend on this to hock their stuff...

But then... a song... a song I hadn't heard in ages catches my attention. I pause on the channel... wow... another great song... I LOVE that one.... and another one!... and another... OH-MY-GAWD! Awwww... and the hostess is such a cute girl and she likes this older music... OH-MY-GOSH-- Greg Brady is the host of this show! I had forgotten how cool the song by Rupert Holmes was. ...if you like pina coladas and gettin' caught in the rain... YEAH!!
Greg then reminds me, "... and who can forget this classic?"
...in the jungle... the mighty jungle the lion sleeps tonight...
"Oh yes!", the pretty young hostess belches... "but don't forget this classic by Maureen McGovern..."
...torn between two lovers... feelin' like a fool...
But wait!! OH CRUD!! I only have 30 minutes after the broadcast to get free shipping!! I race for my purse, I dial the 800 number and get a surly operator...
"Yes, I'd like to order the 70's Music Explosion CD's!!"

Still in a bit of a sleep stupor... I'm really too tired to protest or react quickly to the transaction... I finally decide to try and go to sleep...

The next morning, not sure if it was a dream... I don't give the purchase a second thought... In fact, in a matter of a day... the whole incident has been forgotten... 5-7 weeks delivery, my friends is no stinkin' accident...

So, Michael and I were up late a few weekends ago... and I believe we actually did order 70's Music Explosion... Again... at 4 o'clock in the morning... the song list looks fantastic... take a gander and let me know what you think... In any event, I'll let you know what I think of the collection in what I guess will be 3-5 weeks...

Last night I watched three infomercials back to back--- Classic Soft Rock hosted by yes... you guessed it Air Supply... and the other one was Lifetime of Romance and for the life of me... I can not remember who hosted this one... but of course the best one was hosted by Peter Noone (of Herman's Hermits) and another cute 20 something hostess... The Classic 60's Collection. Now... I don't believe I purchased anything.. but I guess we'll find out in 5-7 weeks.
So... the moral to the story? I dunno... I'm sure I'll get insomnia again and no doubt I will be suckered into another mass purchase...

Besides... the Hee Haw Collection looks fantastic!

Blogs and Links to Check Out This Week:

Neddy's Palaver - She has some wonderful stuff on her blog... I equate her blog to a Norman Rockwell painting - Total Americana - Feel good stuff about being an American. I need to visit her more often. I've been away for too long.

Blogging the Revolution - While visiting Neddy, this link caught my attention. I suspect this blog also belongs to Neddy. Either way... To understand the present, we must understand the past.

Point Five - I like this guy. He has one of the best looking blogs around. He also started Victory Wing..(below). He did an expose on Michelle Malkin... check him out...

I have also joined a couple of blogrolls that can be found on the sidebar.

Song of the week: This One's for the Girls, Martina McBride

I have absolutely nothing to blog about...well, I do... but I'm not in the mood... For instance, I could write about Harriet Miers. Conservatives are walking two separate paths right now... many feel betrayed others are standing by their man. I've read countless blogs and they run the gamut-most criticizing the president for his selection, others stating they are leaving the Republican party... Many are upset with President Bush because he did not select someone that we KNOW to be conservative. Others believe we need to trust President Bush. I'm in the latter category along with a few others... Hugh Hewitt and Thomas Sowell, a man I have a tremendous deal of respect for. So, like my Therapist,
I too am "passively" supporting the President. By no means, would Miss Miers have been my choice, but I'm not the President. George W. Bush has surrounded himself with some of my favorite people, Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary Condoleeza Rice, Secretary Don Rumsfield, John Bolton... The very fact that these folks cause liberals to break out into hives and organize peace rallies makes me very happy. President Bush has had an intense presidency...He vowed that he would fight terrorism and he has kept his promise (Is he as aggressive in the fight as I would like? No...) He hasn't done anything about illegal aliens...well, we knew that when we voted for him... twice... Do I agree with everything he has done? No. Good Lord, he spends money quicker than I do! Regardless, President Bush has my support and I trust him. He is the right man in the right job right now. So, despite the accusations from the left, President Bush has never lied, so when he says, "[...]Harriet Miers will be the type of judge I said I would nominate: a good conservative judge. [...]" I believe him.

So, what's with the title, Cath? Well, it's my mood.... I'm not in a great mood, I'm not in a bad mood, I'm just... "EH"... So, knowing that I don't have anything in particular that I want to ramble about, I thought I'd take this opportunity to follow up on a few things.

  1. A few weeks ago, I added the guest map to my sidebar... to date, it's just been me and Robinik.... Grazie, Robinik! Talk about hurt feelings... be a sport... please sign my guest map...
  2. How do you like the 3 columns? I am HTML illiterate... I'm still not sure how I did it... I'm just glad its working... and I didn't blow anything up. Also, as a little fyi...I have added some links to my blogroll (something I've been meaning to do)...
  3. I have to take a moment to thank the lovely and talented Wonder Woman at A North American Patriot. She singlehandedly increases my blog traffic... At least I know my ramblings amuse her... She sends folks my way every Sunday to read them as you can see here, here, here, here, and here. When I get to 10,000 hits on my blog, then can I borrow your tiara and truth lasso? Pleassseeee?
  4. A hearty hello to all my Italian friends at the Italo American Flag League... True patriots and lovers of freedom all... I love that Italian accent too... very sexy...
  5. Some of you may remember that I made a retraction and was working to get my money back from the HSUS... Well, I'm still working on it... Patience is a virtue... right? Once I get our money back, I'll provide a full report. The lesson here is... research your charity prior to making a donation.
  6. I have added a few more names to my military tribute list, located on the left sidebar. If you would like to add a name to my list, nothing would make me prouder. I'd like to take a moment to welcome Corporal Mitchell Neil Price home. He just finished his second tour of duty in Iraq. It is an honor to know this young man.
  7. Lastly, because I'm in an "eh" kind of mood... and I really don't like it when I feel like this... nothing knocks the "eh" out more than a good Chick Flick--- As all 4 of you that read this will recall, I reviewed my I'm Really Not a 15 Year Old Boy list back in August. My Chick Flick list is ...yes... geared toward the chick.. (namely me since it's my list), but I think some of the boys will like some of these movies also...

So.... in no particular order... here is my list of Chick Flicks...

Steel Magnolias: I love the relationships between the women in this movie. I love their strength. I love the laughing through tears... Casablanca: I must have been 10 the first time I saw this movie... The Joy Luck Club: When I try to explain my relationship with my mother, often I will reference this movie.
Notting Hill: This is such a charming movie. Julia Roberts character is such a pain in the a$$ (I think most women can identify...bad choices in men). In the end, she picks the good guy... the nice guy... the guy that treats her with respect...the man that puts her on a pedestal...
The Wedding Singer: This movie is so cute. The music of course reflects my youth... Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore have great chemistry on the screen and they are fun to watch.
Serendipity: I have had a crush on John Cusack ever since 16 Candles. I have seen, I think almost everything he has done... This is such a feel good movie... Serendipity... what a wonderful word...
It Happened One Night: Claudette Colbert... I love her in everything I that I have ever seen her in. (Since You Went Away is one of my all time favorite movies... you will see that on another list). Clark Gable... I just love him. He was handsome and he behaved like a man.
When Harry Met Sally: This was when Meg Ryan was still sweet. Was I the only one that thought.... wow...Billy Crystal.. he is cute...
An Affair to Remember: Cary Grant... Why wasn't she at the top of the Empire State Building? Love Actually: I hesitated in putting this in my top 10 Chick Flicks... but the reason I include it is for the first 10 minutes of the movie. The film makers set up hidden cameras at Heathrow International Airport at locations where people were arriving. Have you ever been to the airport to just watch people? If you are ever down in the dumps.. I highly recommend going to the airport and watching the arrivals...

There are others... Sleepless in Seattle, Breakfast at Tiffanys, Philadelphia Story, On Golden Pond, The King and I (I have always had a thing for Yul Brynner), anything with Gene Kelly or Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart... The crushes I had on these four men... these movies will show up on other lists...

I wish I could put The Way We Were on this list... but I just can't do it...not anymore...the reason, you ask? One word... Barbra....
