Bargain-Suppliers Discount Mats

The following is an email exchange between Sgt Hess, stationed in Iraq and an internet company called Discount-Mats.com.

To Whom it may concern:

Do you ship to APO addresses? I'm in the 1st Cavalry Division stationed in Iraq and we are trying to order some mats but we are looking for who ships to APO first.

SGT Hess

the response--

SGT Hess,We do not ship to APO addresses, and even if we did, we would NEVER ship to Iraq. If you were sensible, you and your troops would pull out of Iraq.

Bargain SuppliersDiscount-Mats.com

This correspondence took place on January 16. I checked Snopes.com and they have verified this to be true. Ah... yes... the libs showing their true colors.... "I support the troops, not their mission"--- Bullcrap! Liberals hate the military and hate what our men and women in uniform stand for! I'm so sick and tired of their pacifist butts.

For those dozen or so of you that read my blog, I urge you to please post something on your blog about this.... (let me know if you do) Not that I am in the market for a mat, but I want to make a point that Bargain Suppliers Discount Mats can take a stance... The good news is that the American Consumer can also take a stance...

One last thing... feel free to send a note to this company....

UPDATE: Discount Mats sight has been down for quite a while so feel free to drop a note in the mail to them---
UPDATE 7:00 PM: Snopes has updated their sight and included a link to this report.
FINAL UPDATE 1/23/07, 7:00 PM - Dakota Ranger left a comment stating Michelle Malkin posted on this. Looks like the person that sent the email to Sgt. Hess has been terminated. I have removed the phone number and snail mail address. Here is a link to the Fox News article and to point out one thing that was left in my comments for clarification purposes:

"Sgt. Colby Howser, spokesman for the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas, said it is not unusual for soldiers to make purchases on their own. 'He wasn't ordering for the unit,' Howser said. 'If the unit needed to purchase something, it would be a lieutenant colonel placing the order, not a sergeant."

So, I stand by our troops and thank everyone that did the same. OK. Put a fork in me. I'm done. No More on this and back to my 12 visitors a day and if you didn't catch it before, check out this past Sunday's post... I thought it was brilliant... I used Latin and everything..........

Down with Bargain-Suppliers Discount Mats! I have a post linked to yours.

I linked to your post. Also sent it to Rush, Laura Ingraham and Michelle Malkin. I would have linked it to digg, but won't do that without your permission, since it would result in a lot of hits. I'm wondering if this attitude is a violation of any equal rights laws. Not selling to the military would be no different than not selling to black or homosexuals.

You cannot even get to the discount-mats website right now. I wonder if they are being slammed with hate mail.

I "dogpiled" their name and this story or the disrespect to the troops is the first thing to come up.

Thanks for linking to this. I saw that their website was down too.

Link away Kimosabe--- get the story out there--- to think that our troops would be denied anything is unbelievable........

A few questions for you all…

Is this what an online lynch-mob looks like?

Before you all went and knocked the company off the web with your outraged emails, did anyone check whether this employee was expressing a company policy or just being unprofessional and bringing their personal opinions to work?

Has anyone checked that the person who wrote that email was actually a liberal and wasn’t expressing those sentiments for some other reason? (Plain stupidity springs to mind if they think that a unit Sergeant can decide to bring his unit home…)

Why is nobody outraged at the fact that the sergeant needed to write to this company in the first place? Aren’t there other, more appropriate, things that a unit commander should be doing than having to mail around retailers back home looking to obtain equipment for his troops? Three years into this war how can the government not be supplying all the necessaries of daily life to the troops??

If this is an on-line lynch mob, makae the most of it! I am linking to you Kathy, if I can figure out how. Those jerks!

You pose some interesting questions, Liam. But your comment would have been a lot more compelling if you'd posted some interesting answers. Before accusing people of being a lynch mob, why don't you find the answers yourself?

Some things I discovered just by idly poking around is that this outfit is run by Middle Easterners. They also have other sites. One is registered to an Ahmed Bushra. The administrative contact at the mat company is named Faisal Khetani.

Gee, Muslims wanting us out of Iraq? What a shocker!

As far as why this soldier "needed" to write to a retailer to obtain equipment for his troops. I don't think vulgar doormats fall under the category of daily "necessaries."

Would you believe that when I was in the military they didn't issue me an aquarium, Sony Trinitron or for that matter, a wife and kids? Why, I even had to buy my own uniforms, insignia and patches -- like everyone else in the military.

There's only one thing to be done. You need to enlist for just one hitch in the military branch of your choice so you can be more equipped to talk rings around us.

Well, LR, thank you for making my point about the knee-jerk anti-Liberal rhetoric being spouted without any concern for whether the person who wrote the email actually was a typical American liberal.

I did do some checking before posting and came across the part of the Snopes research where the mats in question were identified as being needed for sleeping on. That has now been updated to read just ‘floor mats’ but my original point stands – all the hysteria kicked-off about the rude reply but no-one mentioned that, at the time, it was believed he was looking for something for his men to sleep on, which should be at least as outrageous.

That’s why I call it a lynch mob; vigilante response without due concern for the facts.

And for the record, while I am now too old to enlist, as a teenager I wanted to, but my country didn’t want the services of an out gay man and I wasn't prepared to make my life a lie in order to serve.

Trader Rick- Thanks for the link. I think it is important to bring this story out.

Drop me a note sometime and I'll show you how to do links. If I can do it anyone can do it.

Kimosabe- always my hero.

Liam- I appreciate your comments, but emphatically disagree with you. We (bloggers) are not the bad guys. I find your accusations of us being an internet lynch mob an exaggeration.

lynch mob (dictionary.com)

noun
a mob that kills a person for some presumed offense without legal authority

vig·i·lan·te /ˌvɪdʒəˈlænti/ (dictionary.com)
–noun 1. a member of a vigilance committee.
2. any person who takes the law into his or her own hands, as by avenging a crime.
–adjective 3. done violently and summarily, without recourse to lawful procedures: vigilante justice.

I ask you to please choose your words more carefully...

Now as far as any of us "making your point about knee-jerk anti Liberal rhetoric being spouted without any concern for whether the person who wrote the email was actually a typical American liberal"... not my concern... I don't care if the e-mail sender was stating company policy or was being unprofessional.

I care about that AMERICAN SOLDIER that stands watch over me and is willing to die for that person who wrote that cowardly email to protect his right to say and do as he chooses... I care about the soldier... I want him to know I support him, that I support his mission and I have his back and will never let him down. As long as I am able, I will support our troops.

And when that's in the wash, the SYRIAN FLAG works well, too.

Liam, I'm not going to engage in a catfight on a friend's blog. If you want to discuss this on my blog, you're welcome.

I rejected your last comment because I consider a remark that is word for word on another blog to be spam. Also, beginning by calling everyone a lynch mob is a violation of #3 of my comments policy - opinions must be courteous...
