Wednesday at the Movies, Monty Python & the Holy Grail

There are two kinds of people in this world... those that love Monty Python and those that don't... I happen to be in the category that loves slapstick, sophomoric, oh... and of course silly comedy... Monty Python makes me laugh.

So... if you love the legend of King Arthur and his men of the round table... then please join me in reminiscing about his quest for the grail...

I'm French. Why do think I have this outrageous accent, you silly king.
*
We're knights of the round table,
We dance whenever we're able,
We do routines, and chorus scenes,
With footwork impeccable.
We dine well here in Camelot,
We eat ham, and jam, and spam a lot.
*
And the Lord spoke, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shalt be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out! Once the number three, being the third number be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thou foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.
*
Follow, but follow only if ye be men of valor! For the entrance to this cave is guarded by a creature so fowl, so cruel that no man yet has fought with it and lived. Bones of four fifty men lie strewn about its lair! So, brave knights, if you do doubt your courage, or your strength, come nay further, for death awaits you all . . . with nasty big pointy teeth!

Monty Python is pretty funny. So is British humor in general, partly because I'm halfway trying to figure it out, a la Benny Hill, Mr. Bean, Tracey Ullman, and the like.

Luckily, I have yet to meet anyone who would freely admit that they didn't love Monty Python .. I love Holy Grail, but my favorite remains Life of Brian, probably because I first got to watch it at an Episcopal youth group meeting when I was about 12 years old

I'm still trying to figure out if coconuts migrate, or if a sparrow brings them to England, even more than that how we get them to North Dakota.

Call me sheltered, but I was 25 when I first say Monty Python, and it was The Holy Grail only I was able to watch only the Black Knight scene. It was still a few more years before I saw the whole thing.

So there I was, in the theater, watching Star Wars III Revenge of the Sith. Near the end when Anakin fought ObiWan, and got his limbs removed. I started giggling uncontrollably. Hubby looks at me like I was a fool and I said in my best (or worst) English accent "It's just a flesh wound." LMAO!
